J.H. Carr was chosen to provide the tables, and booths at the Olympic Village Dining Hall. J.H. Carr worked with Marc Fuchs, Executive V.P and Michael Greenwald of M. Tucker, the company awarded the food equipment contract for the 2002 Winter Olympics. M. Tucker is a SEFA partner of J.H. Carr and asked SEFA which of their fellow members could fill their order on this important contract. J.H Carr delivered.

A Lot of Traffic
"One of the reasons we were chosen," said Jerry Carr, marketing Director at J.H. Carr, "is that were the only ones that would supply a 72" tabletop. This allowed entire Olympic Competitor Teams to sit together for their meals." The Compass Group was awarded the catering contract for the Games, and according to Restaurant News, Compass served over 150,000 meals a day. In the first 5 days alone they served over 400,000 hotdogs.

Almost Didn’t Make It
"We had to make up a sample booth and air ship it to the Olympic Organizers for their review, but the freight company lost the shipment. How you loose a large section of booth I’ll never know. But luckily they agreed to review photos and meet us at the NAFEM show to examine our workmanship.” Carr said. Final details were worked out with M. Tucker and the Olympic Organizers at the NAFEM show on September 10. The booths and tables were delivered by year’s end.

Flexibility Means Post Game

J.H. Carr worked with M. Tucker to design the product in such away that it could easily be re-purposed and sold after the games. The partition wall system (not originally in the spec for the job) utilized cantilever table bases for easy maintenance and cleaning and allowed for easy disassembly after the games. The booths, partitions and tables were quickly packed away and ready for shipment to their new owners.
