From carhops to Elvis, the 1950's live in the woods of Kingston
(with the help of J.H. Carr & Sons)

Bob Thompson, owner of Rudys Drive-in and raceway, sits on a J.H. Carr & Sons
C162 Counterstool
,
and likes to dress like Elvis to greet visitors at his 1950-style shrine.

One man's dream turns back clock

Car clubs from around Puget Sound like to rent the mock diner at Ruby’s to hold “cruise-ins”.

KINGSTON, Kitsap County – Bob Thomas had the time of his life in the 1950’s, hanging around in a leather jacket, picking up girls at drive-ins and racing his souped-up Corvette down Highway 3.

So as soon as he had the time and the means, he retired from the shipyards to re-create his favorite era.

In the woods of Kingstom, down a road few people know about, he has built a glitzy place called Ruby’s that service as his home, party place and most of all a shrine to the 50’s complete with Hula-Hoops, hot rods, carhops on roller skates and authentic barstools from J.H. Carr & Sons. . . . Carrs barstools and countertops gave the final touch to this incredible step back in time.

Morale Recreation
& Welfare Show

The MRW Show was held Heidelberg Germany October 15th through the 18th. We were a little late for October Fest but still had a great time and drank some good beer.

The Show was well attended. We look forward to going back next year.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort
"A great resort, a place that will let the time slip by" said Jerry Carr after he and Pat Kelling had an opportunity to look over Fairmont Hot Springs Resort. The design and renovation completed by Bridger Design is now ready for business reports Jerry.

The recently remodeled Coffee shop features an upscale western motif with a make yourself welcome attitude. We had the opportunity of touring the faculties with Judi Henrich, and she's confident the new design will be fully functional for the large summer crowds. We recommend a stop, so take Exit #211 off Interstate 90, 15 miles west of Butte.

A Major Retooling

A major retooling for the J.H. Carr and Sons Seattle Plant, “the planning is complete and the jobs begun” said Jerry Carr VP Marketing and General Manager. Plans include a total retooling and a new floor space plan at our Seattle production headquarters.

J.H. Carr’s new equipment list includes the following items: Anderson America’s CNC ANDI Router with a Pre-Vac Vacuum system, Stiles Homag horizontal beam saw, Altendorf sliding table saw, Brandt edge banding system, and an Omga double end miter saw system. The project started mid February and is scheduled for completion the 3rd week of April, “ The timing is prefect for this change over and we're right on schedule” said VP Sales Wayne Mulliner.

All of the items added point to increased production speed, improved tolerances and reducing labor cost, which Jim Carr states will “ give our clients a better product at lower cost.”

The Carrs have future plans to add a wood waste grinding system to further reduce operational cost later during the 2002 year.

Jerry and Jim Carr have been planning this move the past year and will implement a “Just In Time” production system to reduce inventory and increase floor space for the 63 year old family business. J.H. Carr primarily produces furniture for the Hospitality industry with world wide sales, the Carrs will gain a competitive edge in an expanding market.
